12 Kuwaitis renounce nationality

March 25, 2019 at 9:37 am

Twelve Kuwaiti nationals have renounced their citizenships after “breaking the law” by having dual nationalities, Al-Qabas reported yesterday.

Quoting a state order, the local agency pointed out that the Kuwaiti government revoked the nationalities of the 12 citizens on Saturday after they were asked to waive their citizenships in favour of their foreign ones. The citizens included eight women and four men.

The government order, which was issued by the country’s Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Khaled Al Jarrah, did not provide details about the foreign nationalities they kept.

Al Jarrah’s decision was reported to have been based on “articles 9 and 11 of Kuwait’s Decree 15/1959 and its amendments.”

According to the Passport Index, Kuwait has the world’s 44th best passport.
