Palestinian Authority (PA) yesterday prevented lawyer of the Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association – Addameer from visiting a senior Islamic Jihad leader who is being in custody, Quds Press reported.

According to Quds Press, the PA intelligence services arrested Islamic Jihad leader Riyadh Abu-Safiyyeh on Saturday he was summoned for questioning.

In a statement, Addameer said that the PA prevented the lawyer Muhanad Karaja from meeting the prisoner under the pretext of the absence of the legal advisor.

Addameer condemned this, stressing that “it is a flagrant violation of a just trial guaranteed by local and international laws.”

The rights group added: “This undermines the right of the inmate to have a defence lawyer and the right to meet this lawyer.”
