Members of US Congress have called for a legal formula that would require Saudi Arabia to extradite citizens involved in criminal activities back to America.

The calls came after US media brought back to spotlight the case of four young Saudi men who assaulted staff at a bar in Toledo, Ohio, in July 2015.

The Oregon Life website said the bar staff initially asked the four Saudis to leave the bar at closing time, but they refused. Video of the incident appears to show the men assaulting staff members.

In the wake of the attack, the four men were arrested and brought before the courts, however a Saudi-affiliated company paid their $100,000 bail allowing them to be temporarily released. They then fled the country.

The case came back to light after one of the victims accused the Saudi embassy of funding companies which pay bail for its nationals and facilitates smuggling those involved in criminal activities back to Riyadh.

According to members of Congress as many as 25 Saudis have fled justice in the US.
