A court in Egypt yesterday aired a video which purportedly proves that the Supreme Guide of the Muslim Brotherhood, Mohamed Badie, was spying for Palestinian resistance movement Hamas.

In the video, an unidentified voice can be heard asking Badie about Hamas’ views on a topic, with the Muslim Brotherhood leader replying that there is “coordination” with the group.

However his lawyer, Ossama Al-Hilw, told the court that the video lacks context and it is unclear in what context Badie is being asked about Hamas’ views or by who.

Since the military ousted President Mohamed Morsi in a coup in 2013, Egyptian authorities banned the Muslim Brotherhood and cracked down on its leaders and members, as well as on all the government’s opponents and critics in general.

Thousands of Brotherhood leaders and members have been facing trial over accusations which international human rights groups have said are fabricated.
