A 16-year-old Palestinian on Friday was seriously injured after being run over by a Jewish settler in the southern West Bank, according to a Palestinian official, Anadolu Agency reports.

“Ays Mahmoud Houshiyeh, 16, from the city of Hebron [Al-Khalil] was run over by an Israeli settler while he was walking down the city’s main street,” Ibrahim Abu Zara, governor of Hebron’s Yatta municipality, told Anadolu Agency.

Houshiyeh has since been taken to a nearby hospital, Abu Zara said, where he is being treated for serious head injuries.

Palestinians in the West Bank are the target of frequent attacks by Jewish settlers, local and international rights groups say.

According to Palestinian figures, more than 650,000 settlers currently live on 196 Jewish-only settlements (built with the Israeli government’s approval) and more than 200 settler “outposts” (built without its approval) across the occupied West Bank.
