Responding to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’ call for ending the division, Hamas said yesterday that his actions do match his words.

In a press release issued by spokesman Abdel-Latif Al-Qanou, Hamas said: “The continuous sanctions imposed on Gaza by Abbas, as well as his separatist measures do not meet his calls for ending the division.”

Al-Qanou noted that the formation of the ongoing Fatah government was the latest proof that Abbas is reinforcing national division.

He stressed that Abbas’ call to end the division “must be accompanied by a united national stance which could be represented in the formation of a real national unity government.”

Abbas’ commitment to the status quo and international legitimacy has failed Palestinians
