A woman in the UAE has woken up after being in a coma for 27 years.

Munira Abdulla fell in to a coma when she was 32 years old after her car crashed in to a bus while she was travelling after picking up her son in 1991.

Omar Webair was four at the time and escaped unharmed. Now 32, Omar walked several kilometres everyday to visit his mum in hospital.

Doctors believed Munira would not regain consciousness, however in June last year she began to stir and three days later she called out Omar’s name.

She is now able to communicate with staff who are caring for her at Mafraq Hospital.

“I never gave up on her because I always had a feeling that one day she would wake up,” Omar said.

“The reason I shared her story is to tell people not to lose hope on their loved ones; don’t consider them dead when they are in such a state,” he added.
