Syria’s Muslim Brotherhood warned on Thursday against the US attempts to include the group within terrorism list, claiming that this act “will not preserve the stability of the region.”

The group issued this statement commenting on media reports and remarks made by officials highlighting the US administration’s determination to issue a resolution classifying the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist group.

The group asserted that current and previous attempts to label it as terrorist were “unsuccessful.”

It added that these attempts would not maintain the stability of the region. Instead, they will pave the way for the proliferation of radical and extremist ideas sponsored by some tyrannical regimes.

The group pointed out that the parties moving in this direction shall opt for dialogue and understanding instead, to better serve the interests of everyone.

The group also explained that its fundamental ideas are public and open to all and reflect a moderate state of mind and calling for tolerance, coexistence, and advocacy through wisdom and sound advice, away from extremism and terrorism.

The group mentioned that it has been intimidated by various of regimes and extremist groups, throughout its history. The 49 law issued by former Syrian President Hafez Al-Assad, which sentenced each member of the group to death, as well as imprisonment, arrest, execution and displacement, is the perfect illustration.

It also insisted that the group’s moral, statements and positions consistently emphasise the repudiation of terrorism and the need to confront it and uproot its causes. However, at the same time, the group stressed the rejection of tyranny, providing freedom and democracy for the peoples and consolidating the idea of the autonomy of political decision.

The group concluded its statement saying that Syria today suffers from the terrorism of the Bashar Al-Asad regime, the Iranian and Russian occupier and extremist groups, such as Da’ash and others.

“Terrorism, which has killed more than half a million martyrs, resulted in more than a million detainees, and millions of displaced people, is what we must talk about and enact laws to prevent, eradicate and confront.
