Israel suspends ties with UN Human Rights Commissioner

February 14, 2020 at 12:43 am

Israel has suspended its ties with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights over the publication of a list of 112 companies and entities that have business ties with the Israeli illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank.

Israeli Foreign Minister, Israel Katz said the decision was taken to protect companies operating in Israel.

The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation said that major Israeli political forums had accused the UN commissioner of serving the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions Movement (BDS) agenda.

Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu has also slammed the UN report describing the UN Human Rights Council as “biased and devoid of influence”.

Netanyahu said that it is not a coincidence that both the United States and Israel sever their relations with this body, which is busy smearing Israel’s reputation instead of addressing human rights violations in the world.

The US Senate Foreign Relations Committee has also condemned the report claiming that the list strengthens the BDS movement.
