The Jordanian Ministry of Agriculture has apologised for raising the old Iraqi flag during a meeting held between the Jordanian minister of agriculture with his Iraqi counterpart in Amman, explaining that the mistake was “unintentional”.

“We received information about the protocol error during the one-on-one meeting held last Thursday between the Jordanian Minister of Agriculture Khaled Al-Hanifat and his Iraqi counterpart, Muhammad Al-Khafaji,” a ministry statement announced.

The statement confirmed that the mistake of raising the old Iraqi flag was “unintentional”, adding that Jordan respects the brotherly Iraqi people’s choices and supports them in reaching a strong and prosperous Iraq.

Earlier in the day, Iraqi Minister of Agriculture Muhammad Al-Khafaji called on the Jordanian government to apologise for placing the Iraqi flag from the era of the late President Saddam Hussein’s regime on the table during his recent visit to Amman.
