Egypt’s Minister of Education, Tarek Shawki, yesterday praised his country’s education system saying that it has reached the same level as the education standards in the US and United Kingdom.

Shawki stated during a planetary parliamentary session that 8.5 million Egyptian students are taught modern curriculums, which are at the same level as foreign education systems in terms of quality.

The minister accused parents of resisting the new high school system because they want to maintain a safe educational framework that ensures that their children can go to university, stressing that not adopting the system will “take us back  to square one and hinder the development of  the educational process.”

He added that the 2017 education system is based on the necessity of learning rather than relying on curricula, pointing out that President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi requested the transfer of the examination system online, according to local media.
