Fifty Egyptian doctors have died of coronavirus in the past two weeks alone, bringing the number of those who have succumbed to the virus to 466, the Egyptian Medical Association said in a statement.

The syndicate called on the Ministry of Health to speed up the vaccination drive for health workers and enhance the provision of protective measures in hospitals and medical facilities.

The syndicate added that it is willing to assist in vaccinating doctors across the country’s provinces so as to protect doctors and other health workers.

Egypt has had 218,041 coronavirus infections and 12,820 coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic, and it has vaccinated 0.1 per cent of its population, according to Reuters. An average of 844 new infections is reported every day.
