Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on Thursday hailed the Egyptian army’s “brilliance” during its war with Israel in 1973.

The Egyptian president was commemorating the Egyptian army’s victory over Israel on 6 October, 1973.

“Today we mark the anniversary of the Tenth of Ramadan victory, this precious memory that reflects the Egyptian military’s brilliance in retrieving the land and conquering the impossible,” Sisi expressed in a statement posted on his official social media accounts.

“On this good and solemn occasion, I extend a greeting of respect and appreciation to the martyrs of duty who have achieved this great victory and their spirit of insistence on preserving the dignity of the nation and strong willingness to present the highest meanings of loyalty,” he added.

The “Tenth of Ramadan War”, as it is known in Egypt, or the October Liberation War as known in Syria, refers to the war waged by Egypt and Syria against Israel in 1973.
