Iraqis head to Jordan border in solidarity with Palestine

Hundreds of Iraqi protesters aboard 21 buses yesterday headed to the Iraqi-Jordanian border to protest against Israel’s violence against Palestinians at the Hashemite Kingdom’s border with the occupied West Bank, Anadolu news agency reported.

Najm Al-Saadi, one of the participants, said: “More than 21 large buses carrying hundreds of Iraqis from various governorates across the country, including the capital Baghdad, headed towards the Jordanian border, with the aim of reaching the occupied Palestinian territories.”

Al-Saadi explained that the protesters hope that the Jordanian authorities would allow them to cross into Jordan in order to reach the borders with the Palestinian territories, to peacefully protest against the Israeli attacks against the residents of Gaza and occupied Jerusalem.

Last Saturday, Baghdad and the central and southern governorates witnessed mass demonstrations called for by prominent Shia leader Muqtada Al-Sadr, in support of the Palestinian people and condemning the Israeli attacks on them.

Thousands of protesters gathered in Baghdad’s Tahrir Square, waving the Palestinian and Iraqi flags and chanting slogans denouncing the Israeli attacks against the Palestinian people.

Last Saturday, hundreds of Jordanians participated for the second day in a row, in a protest near their country’s borders with Palestine.
