Egyptian authorities have issued initial permission for international medical aid to enter the besieged Gaza Strip, Dr Essam Yousef, head of the Popular International Committee to Support Gaza, said yesterday.

Yousef, who is also the organiser of Miles of Smiles, said that coordination with the Egyptian authorities is ongoing, pointing out that the medical aid is to enter Gaza in a few days.

He said that a delegation from Miles of Smiles visited the Toyota company in Cairo in order to buy 20 ambulances and send them to Gaza.

Yousef also said that Miles of Smiles would contact several pharmaceutical, medical equipment and medical disposal companies to buy the needed assistance to Gaza.

Miles of Smiles, according to Yousef, is doing its best to afford the badly needed medical equipment that will support the ailing healthcare sector in Gaza.
