A Saudi court has sentenced one of the royal family princes, who works in the Ministry of Municipal, Rural Affairs and Housing, to two years in prison with a fine of 100,000 Saudi riyals after obtaining a forged qualification.

The court indicated in its verdict that the convict is addressed as a “Royal Highness”, a title that is exclusively granted to the offspring of King Abdulaziz Al-Saud.

The court also sentenced a general of the Ministry of the Interior to eight years’ imprisonment on charges of fraud, misusing administrative prerogatives and abusing his position to serve personal interests, in addition to paying a fine of 160,000 Saudi riyals.

The court also decided to issue prison sentences against other officers of the Interior Ministry, who were involved in the same case.

In the same context, a court convicted a major general of the Interior Ministry for fraud, misusing his administrative powers and abusing his position to achieve personal and commercial gains. In addition, four other officers were sentenced to prison for periods between three and six years with heavy fines.

Another Saudi court sentenced a security officer working in the General Directorate for Prisons to two years and ten months in prison with a fine of 30,000 riyals. He was charged after he asked a detainee’s wife, an expatriate whose nationality has not been identified, to engage in an extramarital relationship with him in exchange for services and facilitations to her husband in detention.
