Tunisia court cancels General Labour Union conference

The Public Prosecution Office of the Court of Sousse 2 issued an order to cancel the extraordinary conference of the Tunisian General Labour Union which was scheduled to be held today and tomorrow, as a precautionary measure to confront the spread of the coronavirus, Deputy Public Prosecutor Haitham Boubaker told the Anadolu Agency.

Several organisations and associations, including I Watch and the local branch of the Sousse Bar Association expressed their reservations about holding the extraordinary conference in Sousse, in light of the exceptional health situation the country is experiencing, calling for it to be cancelled.

The Tunisian Labour Union yesterday began a coronavirus testing campaign among participants who were expected to be 500.

Sousse governorate put in place has recently experienced an increase in covid infections.

Yesterday, Tunisia recorded 9,823 new COVID-19 infections, in addition to 134 deaths, which is the highest daily toll the country has witnessed since the outbreak of the pandemic.

The Tunisian Ministry of Health stated that the total number of infections in the country rose to 464,914, including 15,735 fatalities and 372,985 recoveries.
