Floods kill 27 people in Black Sea region of Turkey

A new wave of floods which started due to heavy rains in Turkey’s northern Black Sea provinces on Wednesday, have killed 27 people, Anadolu reports.

The country’s emergency management agency announced today that 25 people died in the province of Kastamonu and two others died in Sinop.

This is the second natural disaster to strike Turkey this month.

More than 1,700 people were evacuated from affected areas, some with the help of helicopters and boats, the Disaster and Emergency Management Directorate (AFAD) said.

It also said 112 villages in Kastamonu and 86 villages in Sinop have been left without electricity, adding that a fund of 20 million Turkish liras ($2.4 million) has been allocated to the region.

Turkey: All wildfires under control

Over 895 workers in Bartin, 2,333 in Kastamonu, and 1,532 in Sinop are working to provide relief in the affected areas.

According to BBC Weather, Kastamonu in the north recorded very heavy rainfall of 61mm in 24 hours.
