Hamas Political Chief Ismail Haniyeh yesterday met with the Palestinian businessman and philanthropist, Munib Al-Masri, in the Qatari capital Doha to discuss reconciliation with the Palestinian Authority (PA).

In an official statement, the movement said that Al-Masri presented a “goodwill initiative to end the division between Hamas and the PA.”

The statement pointed out that the meeting was attended by the Hamas’ Deputy Chairman, Saleh Al-Arouri, as well as other senior members, Husam Badran and Salah Al-Bardawil.

“The Hamas leaders welcomed all the efforts aimed at achieving Palestinian unity,” the statement read, adding that the movement was “frustrated by the PA’s retreat from all signed deals, especially its agreement to a comprehensive Palestinian election.”

During the meeting, the Hamas leaders promised “thoroughly study his [Al-Masri’s] initiative” and “to hold another joint meeting to discuss their opinion and thoughts.”
