Thirty-three cases of the Delta coronavirus variant have been admitted to the European Gaza Hospital, the medical centre’s Director, Yousef Al-Akkad, announced yesterday.

“Among the cases admitted are ten who are in a critical condition and were transferred to the intensive care unit,” Al-Akkad told Al-Rai, describing the other patients’ conditions as “serious.”

Al-Akkad pointed out that the Delta symptoms were “more dangerous”, adding that it could “spread faster across the patient’s body.”

“Delta is more deadly, and affects all age groups, including young people,” he warned.

The official noted that the daily coronavirus figures are “increasing”, stressing that the only solution was “to get vaccinated and adhere to preventive and safety measures.”

So far,  a total of 329,204 people have contracted COVID-19 in Palestine, 3,646 of whom have died, and 314,967 others have recovered, according to the US’ Worldometers.
