Tunisia postpones Francophonie summit to 2022

Tunisia’s Permanent Council of La Francophonie yesterday agreed to postpone the 18th Summit of La Francophonie to next year. The proposal will be presented in the coming days to the Ministerial Conference of La Francophonie for approval.

“Despite a difficult economic situation, Tunisia is fully committed to organising this event,” the representative of the Tunisian delegation, was quoted as saying in a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

At a 117th extraordinary meeting of the Permanent Council of La Francophonie (CPF), representatives of OIF member states and governments “have reached a consensus on the need to postpone, by a year, the 18th Summit of La Francophonie.” This, it added  is “to allow Tunisia to organise this major event in the best possible conditions.”

The 18th Summit of La Francophonie is likely to be held on the island of Djerba in Tunisia. It was due to take place from 19-21 November.
