Israel's Gantz conducts 'important discussion' with US counterpart

Israeli Defence Minister Benny Gantz said yesterday that he had held an "important discussion" with US Secretary of Defence Lloyd James Austin III.

On Twitter, Gantz said: "I had an important discussion with my friend and partner @secdef Austin about US-Israel coordination vis-a-vis Iranian regional entrenchment & its nuclear aspirations."

He added: "We agreed to meet soon to deepen our discussion on strategic issues & military cooperation."

Meanwhile, in a press release, Pentagon Press Secretary John F Kirby said: "Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III spoke today with Israeli Minister of Defense Benjamin 'Benny' Gantz."

He added: "Secretary Austin reinforced his commitment to the U.S.-Israel strategic partnership and to our close cooperation to counter security threats and address challenges in the region."

"The leaders agreed to continue working closely to deepen and enhance the bilateral defense relationship."
