Five turtles have been released back into the wild after receiving medical treatment in Turkey’s Hatay province.

The two Chelonia mydas and three loggerhead sea turtles were being looked after at the Sea Turtles First Aid Treatment and Rehabilitation Center, part of the Mustafa Kemal University, for six months.

The turtles, which were brought to the coast of Samandag in special containers, were released into the sea by the faculty members, students of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, and 7th Regional Hatay Branch of Nature Conservation and National Parks.

Speaking to reporters Muhammed Enes Altug, academic and manager of Sea Turtles First Aid Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre, said: “These turtles were having treatment for about 6 months … One of them had neck curvature and the other one was badly injured due to a strolling fishing line.”
