Israeli authorities are expected to remove a security detail from the family of the former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in December, Walla reported yesterday.
Netanyahu’s family – his wife Sarah, and sons Yair and Avner – were provided six-month security protection after the formation of the new government led by his successor, Naftali Bennett.
In December, Netanyahu was reported to have requested a “two-year security detail extension” after his term ended, but this was rejected after a recommendation by the state security service, Shin Bet to curtail his safeguard measure.
The Netanyahu family had been strictly guarded and protected throughout his 12-year tenure by the Magen unit. His sons were the first children of any Israeli prime minister to be given state-funded personal bodyguards during their father’s term in office.
Netanyahu, 72, will retain his own personal security detail – which includes bodyguards and a private armoured car – for 20 years, as per Israeli law.
