Egypt sentenced man to death for murdering minor

An Egyptian court yesterday sentenced a man to death for murdering a minor in the northeastern province of Dakahlia.

A Mansoura criminal court convicted 24-year-old Abdel-Rahman Nazmy of the premeditated killing of a 13-year-old rickshaw driver in November.

“Nazmy attacked the victim with the purpose of stealing his Tuk-Tuk motorcycle to sell it afterwards,” the court said in a statement.

The defendant was arrested following the attack in which he also stabbed two other men when they attempted to subdue him. The attack was captured on video.

In December, the case was referred to Egypt’s Grand Mufti for a non-binding opinion on whether the defendant should be hanged. The death penalty was later approved.
