A Moroccan football fan died of a sudden heart attack after Egypt scored its second goal during its match against Morocco in the quarter-finals of the African Cup of Nations, which was hosted by Ahmedou Ahidjo Stadium in the Cameroonian capital Yaounde.
According to reports, the man was watching the game in a case in the city of Chichaoua, a suburb of Marrakesh, adding that he had suffered a “sudden heart attack after the Egyptian midfielder Mahmoud Hassan Trezegue scored the second goal.”
As the elderly man was slumped down in his chair, those around him thought he had fallen asleep and did not notice the extent of his troubles until the game ended. An ambulance was called and he was later pronounced dead.
Trezeguet scored in the 100th minute, which meant that it was at least half an hour before the others noticed the man’s situation.
