Israeli aggression against the Palestinian residents of Jerusalem’s Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood requires an agreed and united resistance programme, the Popular Conference for Palestinians Abroad (PCPA) said on Monday.

“This aggression comes in line with the continuous Israeli policy of expropriating and Judaising Jerusalem,” said PCPA Deputy Secretary-General Hisham Abu Mahfouz. “The repetition of Israeli aggression against the Palestinian families in Sheikh Jarrah confirms the findings of Amnesty International’s report that the Israeli occupation is an apartheid regime.”

Abu Mahfouz condemned the protection provided by the Israeli occupation security forces to the extremist settlers during their attacks on Palestinians in occupied Jerusalem and elsewhere. The settlers, he pointed out, are “stealing” Palestinian land and homes.

He hailed the resistance of the Palestinians in Sheikh Jarrah and the other areas across Jerusalem threatened by Israel’s “expulsion policy”, but an agreed and united resistance programme needs to be in place. Moreover, the PCPA official called upon all Palestinians, within and beyond occupied Palestine, to continue their support for the families in Jerusalem, and to raise awareness about their issue around the world.

Normalisation with the Israeli occupation, he concluded, must be challenged in order to end the plots intended to liquidate the Palestinian cause.
