Germany: We support Egypt mediation efforts between Israel, Palestinian factions

Germany yesterday expressed its support for the diplomatic efforts made by Egypt to achieve a ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinian factions.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said in a press conference held in the German capital, Berlin, that he would speak with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi by phone to discuss the latest developments.

Scholz added that President Al-Sisi is trying to mediate and calm this difficult situation and Germany will gladly support Egypt in these efforts.

He pointed out that he would also hold telephone conversations with US President Joe Biden, Frenchman Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

We strongly condemned the actions of the Palestinian resistance.

He stressed: “Above all, we are doing everything in our power to ensure that this attack does not turn into a massive fire with countless consequences for the entire region.”

Earlier yesterday, Scholz held a telephone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to assure him of Germany’s full support.
