During his visit to Tehran, Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, joined Iranian President, Ebrahim Raisi, and reiterated calls for a ceasefire as the besieged Gaza Strip is in the midst of a genocidal military campaign by the Israeli Occupation State.

Al-Sudani said that his visit to Tehran reflects the strong partnership between the two countries, indicating that the most important topic he discussed with Raisi was the Palestinian issue, noting that the Palestinians in Gaza are facing genocide, according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

“We share the same stance towards the Palestinian issue, and we are trying to achieve a ceasefire, which is the most important goal,” Al-Sudani said.

The Iraqi Prime Minister also clarified that Baghdad has submitted a proposal to set up a fund for the reconstruction of Gaza and for the provision of much needed humanitarian relief: “We are working hard to open corridors to deliver humanitarian aid to the besieged people in Gaza. Iraq dispatched relief convoys to the people of Gaza.”

President Raisi, for his part, said, “We believe that the [Israeli] bombardments [against Gaza] must be stopped as soon as possible and a ceasefire must be established.”

He also stressed on the need to send aid to the “oppressed” yet “powerful” people of Gaza as soon as possible.

The Iranian President called out the US over its military and financial support for the apartheid state during its devastating war of aggression against the Palestinian people: “Unfortunately, the US provides arms, intelligence and financial aid to the Zionist regime to brutally kill the Palestinian people and it actually encourages the [Israeli] regime.”

Separately, Al-Sudani met with Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who spoke of Washington’s complicit role in the war, stating: “Since the very first days of the Zionist regime’s attacks, all the evidence and indications show the direct involvement of the Americans in running the war.”

According to PressTV, the Prime Minister, Al-Sudani, praised the resistance operation Al-Aqsa Flood and condemned the Occupation State’s attacks in Gaza, describing them as “collective revenge” against the densely-populated enclave.

Al-Sudani’s trip comes after US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, paid a visit to Baghdad to discuss the situation in Gaza, in addition to Iraqi resistance factions who have stepped up attacks against US bases in the country.

“I made very clear that attacks or threats coming from militias that are aligned with Iran are totally unacceptable,” Blinken said after his discussion with Al-Sudani yesterday.
