Air drops & air strikes: Gaza's aid fallacy

Why is the international community calling for more aid without calling for a permanent ceasefire and an end to hostilities? This is the aid fallacy in Gaza, encapsulated in Israel's recent announcement that it will allow more humanitarian aid in but only so it can continue with the war, the air strikes and the killing.

Israel’s announcement came after extreme pressure from the US and a ruling from the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which said it must prevent the ‘spread of famine and starvation’. 1.1 million Gazans are at serious risk of death by starvation, according to Oxfam, while tonnes of food and medical aid are being held up by Israel, rotting in trucks just on the other side of the Rafah border.

Instead of focusing on solving this issue, or stopping the assault on Gaza altogether, the US is building a pier to bring in aid by a tricky sea route in what one aid worker said is ‘a PR stunt for Biden’s voters’.
