Turkiye’s foreign minister said on Sunday that Israel has no intention of bringing peace to the Gaza Strip. Hakan Fidan added during a press conference with his Saudi counterpart, Faisal Bin Farhan, that, on the contrary, “Israel commits new massacres whenever there is a positive atmosphere [for it to do so].”
This, said Fidan, shows that its leaders actually have no intention of seeking peace. “After the attack on civilians in Khan Yunis on Saturday, we gather that Israel’s intention is not to end this conflict, but instead to continue its policy of exterminating the Palestinian people.”
The Israeli occupation army has carried out its military offensive against the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip since 7 October with US and European support. It has destroyed hospitals, schools, universities and homes, as well as important civilian infrastructure. Food, fresh water, fuel and medicine have been blocked from entering the enclave.
To date the Israeli offensive has killed 38,584 Palestinians and wounded almost 90,000 others, with at least 10,000 missing, presumed dead, under the rubble of their homes. Moreover, around two million people in Gaza have been internally displaced, according to the UN.
