The Sudanese army has regained control of large areas west of Omdurman, two informed military sources told Al Jazeera news channel yesterday.

The Sudanese army took control of the Mansoura, Hamad Al-Nil and Al-Nakhil neighbourhoods and parts of the Abu Saad area following violent battles with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

According to the sources, the army was able to inflict casualties and losses on the RSF, and also seized functioning military equipment.

The RSF has yet to issue an official comment on the developments.

The Coordination of El Fasher Resistance Committees, which supports the Sudanese army, stated that 23 civilians were killed and 60 others were injured as a result of artillery shelling launched by the RSF on a number of neighbourhoods in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State, west of the Sudan on Saturday.

The armed Sudan Liberation Movement in Darfur also stated that the joint forces – supporting the Sudanese army – defeated the RSF in El Fasher during battles between them on different fronts in the city.
