The United States is imposing visa restrictions on 14 Syrian officials, the State Department said today, citing their connection to enforced disappearances, Reuters reported.
These restrictions are in addition to the 21 Syrian officials announced by Secretary of State Antony Blinken in March, it said in a statement. The State Department said more than 96,000 men, women, and children have been “disappeared” by the Syrian government as a way of dealing with critics.
The decision comes as the UN marks the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances today. Over 96,000 men, women, and children remain forcibly disappeared by the regime to this day, according to the State Department.
