The Islamic Resistance in Iraq announced on Wednesday that it has targeted the port of Haifa in Israel in a drone attack, confirming the continuation of its operations against the occupation state. The Israeli occupation forces said that the air defence system intercepted a drone from the east during the night, without specifying its exact source or place of origin.
The group is made up of Al-Nujaba, Kata’ib Hezbollah, Sayyid Al-Shuhada, Imam Ali, Ansar Allah Al-Awfiya and others known to be linked to Iran. “In continuation of our approach to resisting the occupation, in support of our people in Gaza, and in response to the massacres committed by the usurping entity against Palestinian civilians, including children, women and the elderly, the Mujahideen of the Islamic Resistance in Iraq targeted the port of Haifa in our occupied lands this morning with drones,” it said on its Telegram channel. “The Islamic Resistance confirms the continuation of its efforts to destroy the strongholds of the enemies.”
The announcement about this latest attack comes days after the group said that it had targeted an industrial power station in Haifa with a drone. The effectiveness of such operations is not known, because the targets are vital sites in Israel.
More than 180 attacks have been carried out by the group on US bases in Iraq and Syria, the largest of which was a drone attack last January on an American base in Jordan, which killed three American soldiers. This led the US to carry out strikes against targets and sites associated with the group. Washington announced in January that it had bombed the headquarters of the Popular Mobilisation Forces in Baghdad, killing three people, including a military official of Al-Nujaba, Ali Al-Saeedi, known as Abu Taqwa, after claiming that he was involved in attacks on American soldiers.
