The head of the Israeli police intelligence division, Dror Assaraf, announced his resignation yesterday, the latest in a series of resignations in the police ranks, which are overseen by the extremist Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir.

According to the Israeli Broadcasting Authority, Assaraf’s decision came after 35 years of service. This is the second resignation within 24 hours, following the resignation of Shuki Tahauko, the police commander of the North District, after only two years in office.

Since the beginning of the year, Israel Police has witnessed the resignation of six senior officers, amid speculation that the wave of resignations is linked to the appointment of Danny Levy as police chief last July, with Ben-Gvir’s backing.

The Israeli occupation army also announced on Tuesday, the resignation of the Ground Forces Command, Major General Tamir Yadai, for “personal” reasons. Yadai is one of the most prominent army leaders to have announced their intention to resign since the start of the aggression on Gaza.

According to the Times of Israel, Yadai is expected to step down from his position in the coming weeks once a replacement officer is found. The army has not yet announced his successor.

In another development, Israel’s Channel 7 reported that the commander of the Israeli Intelligence Unit 8200, Brigadier General Yossi Sariel, will resign from his position soon.
