Lebanon’s Hezbollah group launched more than 1,307 rockets on Israeli sites in August, the largest number of missiles since the group started attacking northern Israel in support of Palestinians in Gaza on 8 October, Israeli Army Radio reported yesterday.
Citing official data issued by the Shabak security agency, the station said Hezbollah carried out an average of 42 strikes per day during August; a four-fold increase compared to January when it attacked Israel 334 times.
According to the data, Hezbollah launched 1,091 strikes against Israel during July, 855 in June, 1,000 in May, 750 in April and March, and 534 in February.
The radio station said the situation along Israel’s northern front was “boiling” and a full-scale war with Hezbollah was possible.
It reported that Hezbollah has been increasing the pace of attacks and expanding its scope to reach further ranges and new locations in northern Israel.
The Israeli army announced on Wednesday that it had conducted a readiness exercise a day earlier with the participation of various division and military base commanders.
“The exercise included discussing various scenarios in light of the developments on the northern front, and the appropriate operational response for each scenario,” Army Radio said.
