At least 11,001 Palestinian students have been killed and 17,772 injured since the Israeli offensive against Gaza and the occupied West Bank began on 7 October, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education said.
In a statement issued yesterday, the ministry detailed that over 10,888 students have been killed and 17,224 injured in Gaza alone, while in the West Bank, 113 students have been killed and 548 wounded. Additionally, 429 students have been arrested.
The ministry further highlighted that 529 teachers and administrative staff have been killed, with 3,686 others injured across both Gaza and the West Bank. More than 129 staff members have been detained in the West Bank.
The report also stated that 362 government schools, universities and university buildings, along with 65 facilities operated by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), have been bombed and damaged in Gaza. Of these, 124 were severely damaged, and 62 were completely destroyed. In the West Bank, 69 schools and five universities have been raided and vandalised. Furthermore, 133 government schools in Gaza have been repurposed as shelters.
The ministry stressed that 718,000 students in Gaza remain unable to attend their schools and universities due to the ongoing genocidal war on the enclave, with many students suffering from psychological trauma and facing dire health conditions.
