Egypt has warned its citizens against travelling to Somaliland for security reasons.

In an official statement posted on its Facebook page yesterday, the Egyptian Embassy in Mogadishu called on Egyptians currently in the Somaliland region, a breakaway entity from Somalia that Egypt does not recognise, to leave as soon as possible via Hargeisa Airport.

The statement emphasised that the current security conditions in the region limit the embassy’s ability to provide any consular assistance to Egyptians in Somaliland.

The embassy also advised Egyptians intending to travel to any region within the Federal Republic of Somalia to comply with the regulations and procedures set by the relevant Somali federal authorities.
