A ground war against Hezbollah is not in Israel’s favour, the head of the UN Human Rights Mission, Dr Haissam Bou-Said, said yesterday.
He explained that “linking various fronts is part of the Israeli government and military’s plan to cause the highest number of casualties and injuries while attempting to project dominance on all levels.”
During an interview with Cairo News TV yesterday evening, Bou-Said emphasised the strategic complexities and potential losses Israel would face in such a confrontation.
He added: “The Israeli army cannot afford any losses, and as a result, it will gradually withdraw from the Gaza front while delivering sporadic strikes. It will intensify its military operations in the north and shift the battle into Lebanon.”
Bou-Said also noted that “Israel is likely to replicate the Gaza scenario in southern Lebanon, resulting in widespread destruction, devastation of infrastructure, societal fragmentation and mass displacement of civilians.”
