Some 144 Lebanese citizens have arrived at the Al-Qa’im border crossing between Iraq and Syria, marking the first group of Lebanese families to arrive in Iraq after being displaced following Israel’s bombing of Lebanon over the past ten days, Iraq’s Ministry of Migration and Displacement announced yesterday.
The ministry said some of those who arrived were injured, adding that the necessary facilities and services were provided to them.
Last week, Iraq had also received around 57 injured Lebanese citizens, who were transferred to hospitals in the Karbala province. Accommodation arrangements were made for them in hotels and rest houses in both Karbala and Najaf.
Earlier, the Iraqi government announced that it had instructed the Ministry of Interior to coordinate with the Lebanese embassy in Iraq to issue emergency travel documents for Lebanese citizens wishing to travel to Iraq, particularly those who do not have passports.
