Israel has been inflicting a “tragic, genocidal nightmare” on the Gaza Strip since 7 October 2023, US Congresswoman Cori Bush said in a statement released on Monday to mark the one year anniversary of the start of Israel’s bombing of Gaza.
Bush highlighted that over 42,000 Palestinians, including nearly 17,000 children, have been killed, “which some studies show is likely an undercount.”
Stressing the level of destruction being inflicted on the enclave, she added: “Gaza has been destroyed, millions of Palestinians have been displaced, and famine and disease are rampant.”
“The devastation and destruction that have unfolded are already beyond what any soul should ever endure.”
Humanity is being torn apart. If we don’t change course our pain will only deepen and the toll will become even more unfathomable.
“The Israeli government continues to inflict a tragic, genocidal nightmare, and teeters on the edge of regional war, with no clear end in sight … Saving lives must be our top priority. We must stop this violence, and prevent yet another endless war.”
Israel, with US backing, has been conducting a genocidal war on Gaza since 7 October 2023. This has resulted in more than 139,000 Palestinian casualties, including those killed and injured, along with thousands of missing people, amidst massive destruction and famine, which has claimed the lives of dozens of children and the elderly.
Tel Aviv stands accused of genocide at the International Court of Justice, which in a provisional ruling ordered Israel to prevent acts of genocide being carried out in Gaza and to improve the dire humanitarian situation in Strip.
