More than 25 Palestinians were killed after Israel struck a school housing displaced Palestinians in the central Gaza Strip in the early hours of today.

The strikes hit a school and tents located around the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir Al-Balah.

Fires were seen sweeping through the area, with children reported to have been among the dead and injured. Medics said dozens had suffered severe burns.

“The occupation’s fascist policy is based on the deliberate targeting of civilians in residential neighbourhoods and shelters,” Hamas said in a statement today.

“The enemy would not have dared to continue its horrific massacres in the Gaza Strip or expand them in the region, had it not been for the cover provided by the US administration and the international silence on these crimes,” the movement added, calling for the international community and the UN to shoulder their legal and ethical responsibilities towards the Gaza Strip and work to end the ongoing Israeli crimes and aggression against the Palestinian people.
