On Wednesday, Turkiye officially launched the “Lies of Israel” initiative at a panel in the capital, Ankara, aimed at tackling the spread of disinformation surrounding the Palestine-Israel conflict, Anadolu News Agency reports.
According to the report, the event brought together prominent figures, including Turkish Presidential Communications Director, Fahrettin Altun, Anadolu Agency Director-General, Serdar Karagoz, and Professor Mehmet Akif Kirecci from the Social Sciences University of Ankara. They addressed what they described as a “coordinated campaign” to distort facts about the crisis and emphasized Turkiye’s commitment to supporting an accurate narrative.
Fahrettin Altun highlighted that combating disinformation is essential for global peace, stating, “We will not allow distorted versions of reality to mislead people. Truth is our most powerful weapon in the quest for justice.”
Serdar Karagoz emphasized the role of media in providing clear, accurate information, adding, “We are dedicated to upholding transparency and accountability in our reporting.”
Professor Mehmet Akif Kirecci shared insights on the methods used to identify and counter digital misinformation, focusing on the importance of media literacy and critical thinking in today’s information landscape.
The report added that the panel also introduced plans for a public campaign to educate citizens on disinformation tactics, equipping them with the tools to recognise and challenge false narratives.
