Iranian Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, on Friday slammed Germany’s decision to close the Iranian consulates, Anadolu Agency reports.
In a statement on X, Araghchi said the German decision to close Iranian consulates constitute a “sanction” against Iranians residing in Germany.
On Thursday, the German Foreign Ministry ordered Iran’s consulates in Frankfurt, Hamburg and Munich to be closed in response to the execution of a German-Iranian dual citizen by Tehran.
Araghchi accused the German government of backing the perpetrator of a terrorist attack that left 14 people dead in Iranian Shiraz city in April 2018.
According to the Iranian state news agency, IRNA, the Iranian Foreign Ministry also summoned the German charge d’Affaires over Germany’s decision to close the Iranian consulates.
On Monday, the Iranian authorities executed German-Iranian dual citizen, Jamshid Sharmahd, over charges of committing “terrorist acts” in the country.
