An official Hamas source revealed on Friday the details of the discussions held by a Hamas delegation with Egyptian and Qatari mediators regarding a temporary ceasefire.

The source explained to Al-Aqsa TV channel that the delegation had heard, in recent days, ideas that include a temporary ceasefire for a few days and increasing the number of humanitarian aid trucks allowed into the Gaza Strip, in addition to the possibility of a partial exchange of prisoners between the two parties.

The Hamas leader confirmed that the proposals put forward do not include conditions that the movement considers essential, such as a permanent cessation of Israeli attacks, the withdrawal of the occupation forces from the Strip and the return of the displaced to their areas. Moreover, the proposals do not meet the urgent humanitarian needs of the Palestinian people to achieve security and stability and do not include rebuilding the damaged infrastructure or re-opening the crossings, especially the Rafah crossing, which is considered a lifeline for the people of the Strip.

The Hamas delegation reiterated its firm position to the mediators, stressing that the Palestinian people seek a comprehensive and permanent ceasefire, a complete withdrawal of the occupation from Gaza, the return of the displaced to their homes and the complete lifting of the siege.

The delegation pointed out the need to ensure the components of a dignified life, such as providing food, shelter and medical treatment, and rebuilding what was destroyed by the attacks. It also stressed the importance of implementing a comprehensive exchange deal that alleviates the suffering of Palestinian prisoners, putting an end to their detention.

The Hamas official ended by stressing that the movement is open to all ideas and negotiations that can contribute to achieving the goals of the Palestinian people and implementing Security Council Resolution No. 2735, which calls for emphasising human rights and lasting peace in the region.
