French multinational retailer Carrefour said yesterday that it will close all its stores in Jordan, a move attributed to an ongoing boycott of brands supporting Israel, Anadolu reported.
“Starting from Nov. 4, 2024, Carrefour will cease all operations in Jordan and discontinue its activities within the kingdom,” Carrefour wrote in a statement on Facebook.
The company expressed gratitude to its customers, adding: “We thank our customers for their support and apologise for any inconvenience this decision may cause.”
Since 7 October 2023, major international brands have faced international boycotts as a result of public anger of their direct or indirect support for Israel as it bombs Gaza.
Last month fast food chain McDonald’s reported a drop in sales for the second quarter in a row. McDonald’s Israel arm distributed free food to members of Israel’s occupation forces and continues to provide active service persons free or discounted meals in an effort to support their bombing of Gaza.
