The head of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, received a written message from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi yesterday addressing bilateral relations between the two neighbouring countries and affirming Cairo’s “support and solidarity” with Khartoum, Anadolu reported.

The message was delivered by Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Badr Abdel-Aty, during a meeting with Al-Burhan in the city of Port Sudan on the Red Sea, according to a statement from the Sovereignty Council.

The council noted that the letter focused on enhancing and advancing relations between Sudan and Egypt in ways that serve the interests of their people.

Following the meeting, Sudanese Foreign Minister Ali Yusuf told reporters that the visit by his Egyptian counterpart and the accompanying delegation comes at a historic and critical time amidst developments in Sudan.

Yusuf linked the timing of the message to efforts aimed at ending the war that has been raging in the country since April last year, rebuilding what has been destroyed, and steering Sudan out of the dark tunnel it was pushed into by this conflict and those behind it.

For his part, Abdel-Aty stated that his visit was in line with Al-Sisi’s directives to convey Egypt’s full support and solidarity with Sudan.

He added that the meeting with Al-Burhan, who also leads the Sudanese army, addressed regional developments and Al-Sisi’s instructions to provide all possible support to the Sudanese people.
