Iraq has completed the construction of 400 kilometres of a 615-kilometre concrete wall along its border with Syria, the head of the country’s Security Media Cell, Tahsin Al-Khafaji, said yesterday.

Speaking to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Al-Khafaji explained that the Ministries of the Interior and Defence, along with the Joint Operations Command and the Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF), had implemented strict measures to secure the border with Syria over the past three years.

He added that work is ongoing to complete the wall along the 615-kilometre border. So far, 400 kilometres have been finished, with the remaining 210 to 215 kilometres expected to be completed by mid-year, closing all security gaps along the frontier.
