Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi yesterday received a phone call from Russian President Vladimir Putin, during which they discussed enhancing bilateral relations in various areas, including the establishment of a Russian industrial zone within the Suez Canal economic area and the Dabaa nuclear power plant project, according to the official spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency.

Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, the presidential spokesperson, added that the two leaders also discussed regional developments, with a particular focus on the situation in Gaza.

Al-Sisi outlined Egypt’s efforts, in coordination with Qatar and the United States, since October 2023 to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza as a cornerstone for restoring calm in the region.

He also highlighted Egypt’s ongoing work to ensure the implementation of the ceasefire agreement and to facilitate the delivery of adequate humanitarian aid without obstacles. Al-Sisi stressed the importance of international cooperation to guarantee the agreement’s success and to initiate a political process based on the two-state solution in line with international resolutions, which he described as the sole pathway to achieving lasting security and stability in the region.

For his part, Putin praised Egypt’s pivotal role in achieving the ceasefire agreement and expressed his country’s appreciation for Egypt’s ongoing efforts to uphold regional stability, security and peace. Putin also reiterated his support for strengthening economic ties with Egypt.
