Hamas is studying a set of options for managing the phase following Israel’s war on the Gaza Strip, however it categorically rejects foreign intervention in managing the enclave’s affairs, a senior official has said.

In an interview with Al Jazeera, Basem Naim, a member of the Hamas Political Bureau said if none of the scenarios is available, Hamas will bear full responsibility, and will discuss with its partners in Gaza including Palestinian factions and civil society organisations how to manage the sector’s affairs and rebuild the enclave.

He explained that Hamas will not allow any external party to impose a specific formula for managing Gaza’s affairs, noting that estimates for rebuilding the destroyed enclave range between $70-$100 billion.

He considered the displaced Palestinians’ return to northern Gaza yesterday as “one of the greatest days in the history of the conflict” with the Israeli occupation.

“This return represents an important turning point, as it reflects the failure of the occupation’s attempts to impose new equations,” he said.

He also highlighted the images of victory achieved by the Palestinian resistance, noting that Israeli settlers have not yet been able to return to their homes in the Gaza envelope.
